August 25, 2023Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Happy St. Augustine's Day! On August 28 of each year, we celebrate the liturgical feast of this great saint and Father of the Church. St. Augustine spent a long time away from the Lord, but after the many tears and prayers of his mother Saint Monica and his own process, he was able to convert to the faith and become a model for all of us Christians. To St. Augustine we entrust all our parishioners and visitors. May he intercede for the deep desire of our heart to encounter the Lord. May St. Augustine also intercede for all those in our families and community who need conversion. St. Augustine, pray for us!
I want to welcome back Bishop Joseph Perry who is visiting this Sunday to celebrate with us the Feast of St. Augustine and to welcome us to Vicariate 6 of the Archdiocese of Chicago. We have already had Bishop Perry for confirmations this year, and it is always an honor to receive him and celebrate the Eucharist together.
A special greeting to the families, students and teachers at St. Christopher School who already started their school year last Wednesday. May God bless your studies and fellowship during the following months. Our school Mass will begin this Wednesday at 8:30 am.
I also greet the families, students, catechists, and other ministers who will begin this year's Religious Education. This Tuesday, August 29, they will have the opportunity to go to the classrooms to meet their teachers and classmates. I encourage everyone so that this year we grow in the sense of belonging to our Parish and in the love for one another. May they get to know each other, enjoy the sessions and families grow in devotion and love for Christ through the religious education we offer. Thanks to all those who in one way or another contribute so that we can care for so many children and young people who are seeking Christ.
Finally, I want to inform you that registration for OCIA, the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults, is now open. If you or someone you know is over the age of 18 and has not received their Baptism, First Communion, or Confirmation, you can register on our website at StAugustineMidlothian.org/OCIA. Sessions will be in English on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8 pm.

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas,
¡Feliz día de San Agustín! El 28 de agosto de cada año celebramos la fiesta litúrgica de este gran santo y Padre de la iglesia. San Agustín pasó un buen tiempo alejado del Señor, pero después de las muchas lágrimas y oraciones de su madre Santa Mónica y de su propio proceso, pudo convertirse a la fe y llegar a ser un modelo para todos nosotros los cristianos. A San Agustín encomendamos a todos nuestros parroquianos y visitantes. Que él interceda por los deseos profundos de nuestro corazón de encontrarnos con el Señor. Que San Agustín interceda también por todos aquellos en nuestras familias y comunidad que necesitan de la conversión. ¡San Agustín, ruega por nosotros!
Quiero darle la bienvenida nuevamente al Obispo Joseph Perry que nos visita en este domingo para celebrar con nosotros la fiesta de San Agustín y darnos la bienvenida al Vicariato 6 de la Arquidiócesis de Chicago. Ya habíamos tenido al Obispo Perry para las confirmaciones de este año, y siempre es un honor poder recibirlo y celebrar la Eucaristía juntos.
Un saludo especial a las familias, estudiantes y maestros de la Escuela de San Christopher que ya iniciaron su año escolar el pasado miércoles. Que Dios bendiga sus estudios y compañerismo durante los siguientes meses. Nuestra Misa escolar comenzará este miércoles a las 8:30 am.
Saludo también a las familias, estudiantes, catequistas y otros ministros que comienzan la Educación Religiosa de este año. Este martes 29 de agosto tendrán la posibilidad de asistir a los salones de clase para conocer a sus maestros y compañeros. Animo a todos para que en este año crezcamos en el sentido de pertenencia con nuestra Parroquia y en el amor de unos por otros. Que puedan conocerse, disfrutar de las sesiones y que las familias crezcan en devoción y amor a Cristo a través de esta educación religiosa. Gracias a todos aquellos que de una u otra forma contribuyen para que podamos atender a tantos niños y jóvenes que buscan a Cristo.
Finalmente, quiero informarles que ya están abiertas las registraciones para OCIA, el Orden de Iniciación Cristiana de Adultos. Si usted o alguien que conoce tiene más de 18 años y no ha recibido sus sacramentos de bautismo, primera comunión o confirmación, pueden registrarse en nuestra página web StAugustineMidlothian.org/OCIA. Las sesiones serán en inglés los martes de 6:30 a 8 pm.
